Astro, Malaysia’s leading content and entertainment provider, proudly participated in Safer Internet Day 2026, a community event organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to promote a safer and more responsible use of the Internet. In supporting this initiative, Astro continues to play its part in promoting a safer digital environment and encouraging responsible online and digital streaming practices within the community.
Safer Internet Day, celebrated on February 10 this year, is a globally recognised initiative that brings together governments, industry players, educators, parents and young people to raise awareness about online safety issues and encourage positive digital behaviour. Held at Astaka
Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, the event featured sharing sessions on parental controls, age-appropriate social media use and online safety tools, alongside interactive forums, stage activities and hands-on experiences designed to help Malaysians navigate the digital space more safely and confidently. For Astro, Internet safety goes beyond awareness. It means ensuring Malaysians can enjoy content and digital experiences with greater confidence, supported by trusted platforms, responsible practices and safer viewing environments.
Tai Kam Leong, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, Astro, said, “Astro is proud to be here today in support of Safer Internet Day 2026. This commitment reflects our continued focus on providing trusted stories for every Malaysian through reliable, relevant and age-appropriate content. As media consumption continues to evolve, we will continue investing in both great content and products, while upholding strong content standards and working with trusted partners to deliver a safe and responsible viewing experience.”

In supporting safer digital experiences, Astro also places strong priority on helping families create a safer viewing environment for children. During the event, Astro engaged visitors through its interactive booth, which featured a live demonstration of curated kids-friendly programming, parental controls and dedicated Kids Profiles, allowing parents to better understand how these features support a safer viewing experience. The booth was also brought to life by performances from Didi & Friends, drawing families and young visitors to learn about online safety in a fun and engaging way.
Furthermore, Astro continues to view the fight against piracy as a critical part of Internet safety. The dangers of piracy and illegal streaming services often expose users to serious online risks including malware, phishing scams, data theft, as well as harmful or inappropriate content. These hidden threats can compromise personal security and put families at risk.
Astro is dedicated to protecting its content and audiences by raising public awareness on the dangers of illegal streaming and working closely with relevant authorities to safeguard intellectual property rights.
And finally, through coverage such as news and radio talk shows, Astro raises awareness of Internet safety by sharing relatable content that resonates with Malaysians. These efforts reflect Astro’s broader focus on promoting safer digital habits and encouraging responsible Internet use across all segments of society.

The Safer Internet Day 2026 was further enlivened by appearances from local celebrities including Dato’ Jamal Abdillah, Faizal Tahir and Kaka Azraff, among others, who performed in a mini concert. The event was also attended by YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications, and brought together families and industry partners to engage in insightful conversations about digital safety.
Astro will continue supporting national efforts to build a safer online environment by providing trusted content, advocating responsible digital behaviour and strengthening awareness of the risks that exist in today’s online space. Through partnerships, education, and ongoing initiatives, Astro aims to play a meaningful role in helping Malaysians thrive in the digital world safely.
