Pilot Cadet Moganraj : A 12-Year Journey, Countless Setback & The Sky Belongs to Him

 The story of 33-year-old Moganraj

The story of 33-year-old Moganraj A/L Govindarajoo, who graduates with a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering Technology (Professional Aviation) with Honours, is a powerful reminder that no dream is too distant when pursued with unwavering determination.

Raised in a modest family, he began his journey at UTHM in 2010 as a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering student under a Public Service Department (JPA) sponsorship. His commitment and hard work eventually earned him his degree and the Vice-Chancellor’s Award.

Driven by a lifelong passion for aviation, he enrolled in the Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering (Aviation Professional) programme in 2013 with a single ambition: to become a pilot. But in 2017, financial constraints forced him to pause his studies, an unexpected setback that tested his resilience.

To support his dream, he took up work at Howard Agricultural Equipment and later secured a position as an Assistant Engineer. In 2019, a breakthrough arrived when he was accepted into both the AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines Pilot Cadet programmes. Yet again, fate intervened. The Covid-19 pandemic halted his progress, placing his aspirations on hold for a second time.

Refusing to give up, Moganraj rebuilt from the ground up, joining Oversea Lighting and eventually rising to the position of Director of Business Development. His passion was rewarded in 2022 when Malaysia Airlines called him back to begin his long-awaited flight training.

Today, he stands proudly as a Boeing 737-800 Pilot Cadet with Malaysia Airlines, marking the end of a remarkable 12-year journey defined by endurance, faith, and the courage to try again.

For Moganraj, this convocation represents far more than a degree. It symbolises the triumph of a young man from a humble background who refused to abandon his dreams.
