Veteran actor Vijayakanth is set to make a comeback into acting after six long years, with a crucial role in Vijay Milton's "Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan".

Besides, the film, starring actor cum composer Vijay Anthony in the titular role, will also see Vijayakanth star alongside Sarathkumar, with whom he had last shared the screen in Captain Prabhakaran in 1991.

According to Times of India, shooting of the offbeat film is proceeding as scheduled at various areas in Chennai, and the film's team is expected to make an official announcement about Vijayakanth's participation soon.

The 69-year-old actor cum politician, fondly known as "Captain" to his fans, has stayed away from cinema the last six years, due to various health issues.

He was also hospitalised with COVID-19 in September last year.

The former action star was last seen in a cameo role in his son Shanmugapandian's "Sagaptham" in 2015.

Despite his long absence, Vijayakanth still commands a following among his fans, and has also become a meme-worthy character in the virtual world - thanks to the over-the-top stunt scenes in his movies.

Welcome back "Captain"!
