What if Trisha stepped into the shoes of one of Tamil Nadu’s most influential political figures, J. Jayalalithaa?

That possibility has sparked interest following reports that the actress is being considered for the role in an upcoming biographical film about legendary actor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. G. Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR.

Titled Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, the film will reportedly trace MGR’s journey from his early life and successful acting career to his rise in politics and tenure as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

Actor JM Bashir, who was last seen in Pasumpon Devar, is set to portray MGR in the project. Speaking to the media on his birthday, Bashir reportedly shared details about the film and revealed that filming is expected to begin soon in Ramapuram, Chennai.

While the project itself is generating interest, the possibility of Trisha portraying Jayalalithaa has become one of its most intriguing talking points.

According to a report by Dinamalar, discussions are reportedly underway with Trisha to play Jayalalithaa, who shared a significant connection with MGR in both cinema and politics.

Bashir reportedly expressed confidence that Trisha would be a suitable choice for the role, given Jayalalithaa’s importance in MGR’s life and her lasting influence on Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.

He also revealed that his daughter and Trisha are friends and are currently working together on a film.

However, there has been no official confirmation of Trisha’s casting from the actress or the production team. For now, her reported involvement remains a possibility rather than a confirmed announcement.

If she eventually takes on the role, it would give audiences another opportunity to see the actress explore a character inspired by one of Tamil Nadu’s most recognisable political personalities.

MGR and Jayalalithaa first became familiar faces to audiences through Tamil cinema, appearing together in several films before their careers extended into politics.

Their association later became an important part of Tamil Nadu’s political history. MGR went on to become Chief Minister, while Jayalalithaa eventually emerged as a major political leader and succeeded him as Chief Minister.

Their shared history offers plenty of material for a biographical film, from their years in the entertainment industry to their influence on the state’s political landscape.

However, the filmmakers have yet to reveal how extensively Jayalalithaa’s life and relationship with MGR will feature in the narrative.

Whether the film focuses primarily on MGR’s personal journey, his political achievements or the people who shaped his life remains something audiences will have to wait to discover.

Jayalalithaa is not the only prominent political figure reportedly set to appear in the film.

According to Bashir, the upcoming biopic is also expected to feature characters based on M. Karunanidhi and C. N. Annadurai, two influential figures in Tamil Nadu’s political history. Casting for these roles, along with other important characters, is reportedly still underway.

The film’s director and music composer have yet to be announced, with further production details expected to emerge as the project progresses.

For now, Bashir is preparing to take on the challenge of portraying MGR, whose legacy spans decades of Tamil cinema and politics.

Filming for Puratchi Thalaivar MGR is reportedly expected to begin in Ramapuram, Chennai, although the complete production schedule has not yet been officially announced.

Bashir’s previous project, Pasumpon Devar, centred on the life of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar. His latest project will see him take on another figure whose influence extended far beyond the silver screen.

With the casting of several major historical personalities still taking shape, audiences will be watching for further announcements about who will bring these iconic figures to life.

And while Trisha’s reported casting remains unconfirmed, the possibility of seeing her portray Jayalalithaa has certainly added another layer of curiosity to the upcoming MGR biopic.
