Fondly known as “Aachi,” Manorama was not just a legendary entertainer, but a timeless icon who witnessed and worked alongside some of the biggest names in South Indian cinema and politics across generations.
Born as Gopishanta in Mannargudi, Thanjavur on May 26, 1937, Manorama began her journey as a stage artist during a time when very few women entered theatre. Rechristened as “Manorama” by drama director Thiruvengadam and harmonist Thiyagarajan, she later made her silver screen debut in the 1958 Tamil film Maalayitta Mangai.
Over a remarkable career spanning more than six decades, Aachi worked in more than 1,200 films and 1,000 stage plays, earning a place in the Guinness World Records for completing 1,000 films.
Throughout her extraordinary journey, she worked with several iconic political leaders and cinema legends across generations:

- M. Karunanidhi – Worked together in several political and social stage dramas.

- Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar – Worked together in films including Rasigan and Senthoorapandi.
