Many celebrities and netizens have been urging the Nadigar Sangam or South Indian Artistes' Association (SIAA) to take action against Meera, but the association remains silent on this matter.
Recently, she spoke ill about Vijay's wife Sangeetha and Suriya's wife actress Jyothika which created an uproar online. Responding to her controversial statements, legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja condemned her celebrity bashing and said that her words are like “mud being slung upon a beautiful painting.”
He highlighted the philanthropic activities of Suriya and Vijay and insisted that it was not appropriate to make derogatory remarks about them and their families.
The director also criticized film bodies including Nadigar Sangam for not defending the stars. Here's the press statement in Tamil:

In response to Bharathiraja's statement, Suriya has finally voiced out on the matter.
"It's my wish that my brothers and sisters spend their time and energy in constructive endeavors. My heartfelt thanks to Iyakkunar Imayam Bharathiraja," he said in a tweet.
The actor also shared his earlier tweet: "Let us not react to cheap criticisms and lower our esteem. Please spend your time and energy usefully for the good of society".
