Prominent actor Vijay, fondly called Thalapathy by his loyal fans, made headlines after he was fined Rs 1 lakh for a tax exemption case that was filed in 2012.

Vijay who has a craze for cars imported a Rolls Royce Ghost luxury car in 2012 from London and filed for an entry tax exemption for the purchase. The import tax costs 20% of the purchase price of the vehicle.

Now 9 years later, the actor was fined Rs 1 lakh and ordered to pay the amount as a contribution to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Corona Relief Fund within two weeks.

During the verdict, Justice S.M. Subramaniam stressed that movie heroes should act just in real life too, and it will be unacceptable to portray roles that fights for social justice in movies but avoid paying tax in reality.

The court also noted that the petitioner, Vijay, failed to disclose his profession or occupation in the affidavit when he filed the petition claiming extraordinary entry tax has been imposed on the vehicle.

Just recently, a video of Vijay's Rolls Royce strolling down the city went viral on social media.
