Actress Revathi rocked the movie industry in the 80s and 90s, starring in hit movies such as Thevar Magan, Mouna Raagam, Anjali, Magalir Mattum and gaining several accolades for her flawless acting skills.

Despite her successful film career, it wasn’t smooth sailing when it came to her personal life. Revathi is among the actresses who fell for their directors, and like many of her counterparts, her marriage ended up in divorce.

She fell in love with her ex-husband, actor cum director Suresh Chandra Menon, on a movie set, and married him in 1986. After being married for 16 years, the couple separated in 2002, but only divorced in 2013.

After their divorce, Revathi revealed that she had become a mother. The actress revealed in an interview that she is the biological mother of her daughter and that she's used the IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) method to conceive.

"When younger stars say, ‘I would have given a limb to be Divya from Mouna Ragam,’ I tell them, Divya was mine! The character was created for me and no one else!" laughs actress Revathi, referring to one of her most iconic roles in Mani Ratnam’s 1986 cult classic, a tale of love and redemption.

In an interview with OTT Play, Revathi, who has successfully navigated multiple industries, genres, and roles for decades, reflects on her evolution alongside the films she has starred in. "All of us grow. I’ve grown the right way," she muses. "I’m very happy with who I’ve become and where I am now. The only regret I have is that I got married very young. I wish I had waited a little more and enjoyed life a little more. I listened to my heart over my head."

Revathi came to the cinema at the age of 17 and got married when she was only 20, around the time when she was acting in Punnagai Mannan with Kamal Haasan. The actress further added that she should've done more films before settling down.
