Andrea Jeremiah Opens Up About Her Career

Actor–singer Andrea Jeremiah, who is now gearing up for the release of her next film Mask alongside Kavin, has spoken openly about a tough phase in her career. While promoting Mask, Andrea shared that her much-talked-about role as Chandra in Vetrimaaran’s Vada Chennai, though critically acclaimed didn’t translate into new opportunities.

Andrea, who started out as a singer before making her mark with films like Aayirathil Oruvan and Taramani, said that Vada Chennai was a turning point… but not in the way she expected.

“After Chandra, I didn’t get any film offers,” she revealed during Galatta Plus’ roundtable with the Mask team. “I got a lot of praise, a lot of acclaim… but no work. I think filmmakers didn’t know what to do with a woman like Chandra. Unfortunately, many actors don’t want powerful women in their films.”

Vetrimaaran who guided Mask as a mentor was seated right beside her when she shared this. Andrea recalled his advice during that confusing phase: “He asked me to wait… that people will start writing roles for me, because I don’t fit into a box.”

With Mask set to hit theatres, fans are excited to see Andrea in yet another bold, unexpected shade, indeed exactly the kind of role Vetrimaaran once told her the industry would eventually write for her.
