Mani Ratnam is a famous director in the South Indian movie industry, who introduced actor Suriya in his popular 90s film 'Nerukku Ner'.

In the movie, both Vijay and Suriya acted as rivals and turns into best friends at the end of it. Meanwhile, Simran and Kausalya played their lady love.

However, Suriya isn't the first choice for the role as Mani Ratnam originally signed Ajith.

The shooting went on for 18 days as Ajith and Vijay worked together, but Ajith opted out of the movie for some unknown reasons after 2.5 weeks.

If the movie has materialised, it would have been one of the best movies of all time as Ajith and Vijay grew immensely over the years in the entertainment industry and have gained a loyal group of fans each.

To date, both of them have only worked together on 'Rajavin Parvayile', a movie released in 1995. After Ajith's 'Mangatha' was released, Vijay informed director Venkat Prabhu that he would've loved playing Arjun's role - Ajith's partner in crime in the movie.
