‘Nakkeeran’, A Local Documentary Series Which Focuses On Malaysia's Alarming Issues!

All Astro customers can enjoy new local thought-provoking Tamil documentary series Nakkeeran premiering on 6 June, 9pm on Astro Vinmeen HD (CH 231) via TV, Astro GO and on demand. 

Directed by Karthik Shamalan, Nakkeeran will consist of 30 episodes that take an in-depth approach to hard-hitting current issues engulfing local communities. 

This documentary series is bound to captivate viewers with its approach in addressing close-to-heart, everyday issues including the struggles of Tamil schools, gangsterism, bullying, religious exploitation, the shift in local cultures, struggles faced by older and foreign folk, physical and mental health issues, animal abuse, crime, fake news and more. 

In addition to addressing these issues, each 30-minute episode will also provide insights on how to prevent and also mitigate these issues.  

All Astro customers can catch new episodes of Nakkeeran every Saturday and Sunday at 9pm on TV and Astro GO or stream anytime on demand.

There seems to be a lack of interest within local communities, in sending their children to Tamil schools. These episodes will also focus on issues faced by Tamil schools as well as the Tamil language itself.

Some individuals manipulate others to gain money and publicity using the pretence of ‘a trance’. These episodes will also reveal the process of getting into a state of trance and the truth behind it.

Discussion on how children and students are influenced into gangsterism, become victim to bullying and other social problems. These episodes will also focuses on how parents, entertainment, society have either directly or indirectly contributed to this major issue.

An in-depth look into obesity, a serious health issue suffered by many Malaysians, but yet, a condition that is often taken lightly.

A discussion on crime, specifically theft or robbery, i.e. snatch thefts, car and bike thefts and more. These episodes will also focus on the detailed planning that happens prior to the execution of the robbery itself.

Touches on common issues faced by older folks, orphans and  foreign workers.

The current state of the Malaysian Indian art, cinema and music industry, as well as the issues revolving around this rapidly expanding industry.

The disappearance of culture and its roots due to the influence of western or other foreign cultures.
Episode 23 & 24:

A focus on Tamil film hero-worshipping among youths which has become a problem among Malaysian Indian youth. Also discusses the adverse effects of this ‘counter culture’.
 
Episode 29 & 30:

These episodes will revolve around the state of mind Malaysians have when it comes to the topic of ‘caste’.
