While fans were surprised to learn that actor Arya's cameo in Suriya's Karuppu was removed from the film's final cut, the actor himself appears to have taken the decision in stride.
Speaking during promotions for his upcoming film Ananthan Kaadu, Arya opened up about the deleted role and revealed that he had no issues with the makers' decision.
Earlier, Karuppu editor Kalaivanan disclosed that Arya's appearance was actually the longest cameo removed from the film. He also assured fans that the footage would eventually be released as part of the film's deleted scenes.
Sharing his side of the story, Arya said director RJ Balaji personally informed him before the scenes were removed.
"I did a small experimental role in Suriya's Karuppu. RJ Balaji later called me and explained that it didn't work in the larger scheme of the film. He informed me before removing the scenes. We will definitely work together on another project in the future," said Arya.
The actor further revealed that he agreed to be part of the film solely because of his friendship with RJ Balaji.
According to reports, Arya never questioned the size of the role, the importance of the character, or even how much screen time he would receive.
"RJ Balaji asked me to do a cameo in the film. Since we're close friends, I immediately said yes. I didn't ask how big the role was or anything else. I simply did it for him," he shared.
Arya added that he completely understood the decision to remove the scenes if it ultimately benefited the film.
"Later, they informed me that the scenes had been removed during editing, and that's completely fine with me. If cutting my scenes makes the film better, that's what matters. I never did it for screen time or recognition," he said.
Karuppu stars Suriya in the role of a powerful guardian deity who descends to Earth to answer the prayers of a struggling family. However, his mission soon expands as he confronts a deeply flawed legal system controlled by corrupt forces and sets out to bring justice and reform.
Interestingly, Arya was not the only actor whose portions failed to make the final theatrical version. Editor Kalaivanan had previously revealed that scenes involving Kaali Venkat, a reference to Vijay's GOAT, as well as sequences featuring the twin brothers from Doctor, were also trimmed during editing.
Actress Swasika had similarly shared that some of the scenes she shot for the film were omitted from the final release.
