The trailer for Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming action film 'Beast,' which will be released for Chithirai New Year on April 13th, has generated quite the buzz. In the film, Vijay is confronted by terrorists in a hostage scenario in a mall.

The highly-anticipated action flick has been compared to Yogi Babu's 'Gurkha' released in 2019, and some sites claim that the film has ripped off several Hollywood movies. Beast's director Nelson Dilipkumar said that although hijacking scenarios have been done in movies, the film's creation and the script will be different.\

Aside from some unavoidable parallels in certain scenes, Nelson said he watched Gurkha and found it completely different from Beast.

"And yes, people did tell me that audiences might be reminded of Gurkha. I had seen that film as Redin Kingsley is part of it and its director Sam Anton is also a friend. That said, just like flight hijacks, mall sieges are a sub-genre, and there have been many films on it. What we do with it determines how different it is," he explained.

Further establishing that his films are never exactly how they seem in trailers, Nelson stated that the film was not based on the well-known Netflix crime drama 'Money Heist.'

"There's a small Pokkiri moment in this film. It won't be a long scene, but there's something, yes. I am a huge fan of that film. Truth be told, it served as inspiration for the script of Beast," he revealed.

Talking about Vijay, Nelson said, "He plays a RAW officer in this film, and we have thought of it as a sort of James Bond film. The script was written keeping Vijay sir in mind, and he agreed to do the film halfway through the narration. He has seen the rough cut of the film, and he likes it."

Along with Vijay and Pooja Hegde, the film also stars Yogi Babu, Aparna Das, Selvaraghavan, and Shine Tom Chacko in supporting roles. The film is being produced by Sun Pictures, with music by Anirudh.
