In the past decade, the making of local Tamil-language content is actively growing in Malaysia. ‘Vedigundu Pasangge’ is to date, the highest-grossing Malaysian Tamil movie of all time, having also set the record as the first local Tamil-language film to cross the RM1 million mark at the box office. Starring Denes Kumar, the action comedy serves as the third movie in the "Pasanga" trilogy, which started in 2011 with "Vilaiyaatu Pasange", followed by 2014's "Vetti Pasanga". Maindhan is a multi-starrer action comedy flick led by Kumaresan, and also stars Shaila, Gheetha, Rabbit Mac, Hanuman and THR Uthaya. Malaysia rapper Darkey has also made a special appearance. The film gained acclaim from critics and also emerged as the highest grossing locally produced Tamil film of all time before beaten by Vedigundu Pasangge in 2018.

If you’re in for a laughter, then this one is for you! Appalam is a Tamil-language remake of the film Papadom, both directed by Datuk Afdlin Shauki, wherein he also starred in both versions. The film won Best Film at the Malaysia Indian Film Festival 2012 and became a big hit, thanks to its entertainment quotient. The success credit also goes to its notable line up featuring S. Gana, Raja Ilya, Jaclyn Victor, Shashi Tharan, and Sharifah Amani.

Pulanaivu, meanwhile, bested a list of many Tamil movies from around the world and won the Best Crime Thriller Feature Film award at the Toronto Tamil Film Festival 2020 (TTFF 2020). This action-packed mystery-romance film also made history when it was screened in 64 cinemas nationwide, making it the first Malaysian-Tamil film with the highest number of cinemas listing ever.
