Ilaiyaraaja is a legendary music director in South India who has composed tons of evergreen songs that still rule our playlists after decades.

Ilaiyaraaja just turned 78 years old, and birthday messages poured in for the music director from all over the world, on 2nd June.

Even though his fans believe that he was born on 2nd June and shares the same birth date with director Mani Ratnam, in reality, Ilaiyaraaja was born on 3rd June and shares the same birth date with the late politician, Kalaignar Karunanidhi.

The music director changed his birthday to 2nd June and started celebrating his birthday a day earlier as he wanted everyone to focus on Karunanidhi the next day.

Ilaiyaraaja who received the 'Isaignani' title from Kalaignar, previously stated that he hasn't contributed much to Tamil, thus only Kalaignar should be wished on that day.
