Long before Hrithik Roshan became one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, he was a child trying to find his feet in front of the camera. And during those early days, a legendary co-star made sure he never felt alone when things went wrong.

Hrithik recently looked back on his childhood experience working with Rajinikanth in the 1986 film Bhagwan Dada. His memories of the superstar were not just about sharing the screen with an icon, but about the kindness he received when he was still learning.

During a conversation at the trailer launch event for the docu-series The Roshans, Hrithik recalled how Rajinikanth would step in whenever he made a mistake during a shot.

“He was quite gentle and generous. When I messed up a shot, Rajni sir used to take the blame so that I would not get conscious as a child,” he shared.

For a young performer, making mistakes on a film set can be intimidating, especially when the director is someone from your own family. Bhagwan Dada was directed by Hrithik’s grandfather, J. Om Prakash, and the young actor remembered how Rajinikanth would make the situation easier for him.

In an earlier interview with Samachar Plus in 2017, Hrithik recalled that he was comfortable enough around Rajinikanth to speak freely with him. At that age, he did not fully understand the stature of the superstar standing beside him.

“I used to consider Rajini sir as a friend,” he said, remembering how the veteran actor treated him with patience and affection.

Whenever Hrithik made a mistake in his dialogue and the shot was stopped, Rajinikanth would reportedly apologise as though the mistake had been his own.

“He would take my mistake upon himself,” Hrithik recalled. “He used to make me feel that, ‘You’re okay. It’s not your fault, I made a mistake.’”

Looking back, Hrithik said the gesture meant far more than simply helping him get through a difficult moment. Rajinikanth was protecting a child’s confidence, making sure that a mistake did not leave him feeling embarrassed or discouraged.

“I remember that now with so much love in my heart,” he said, describing the experience as one of the sweetest things about working with the veteran star.

At the time, Hrithik did not see Rajinikanth as a legendary actor. To him, he was “Rajini uncle”, someone he felt comfortable around and someone who made his early days in cinema a little less frightening.

Years later, that memory remains special to him.
