The reported online leak of Jana Nayagan has sparked strong reactions across the South Indian film industry, with several prominent figures voicing concern and extending support to actor Thalapathy Vijay.
Ahead of its theatrical release, the much-anticipated film surfaced online, leading to widespread criticism from industry members. Among those who reacted were superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, both of whom condemned the incident and urged audiences to support the film through legal viewing in cinemas.
Rajinikanth expressed deep concern over the development, stating that the unauthorised release of the film online had caused shock and disappointment. He called on film associations to take a firm stand and urged authorities to identify those responsible and take strict action to prevent such incidents in the future.
Kamal Haasan, meanwhile, described the situation as more than just an isolated incident. In his statement, he suggested that the leak reflects a larger systemic issue. According to him, delays in certification processes may have contributed to the situation, creating space for piracy to take hold.
The leak of #Jananayagan is not an accident - it is the result of systemic failure. Had due process been timely, we would not be here. Inordinate delays in certification created fertile ground for piracy. When legal access is stalled, illegitimate channels take over.

He further noted that piracy is not merely a legal issue but a serious threat to the creative industry, affecting artists, technicians, producers, exhibitors, and theatre owners. Emphasising the need for accountability, he highlighted the importance of timely certification, stronger enforcement, and faster removal of pirated content.
Kamal Haasan also expressed confidence that genuine cinema lovers would stand by the industry by choosing to watch films through official channels.
Other actors including Suriya Sivakumar, Karthi, and Chiranjeevi Konidela have also reportedly spoken out against the leak, reinforcing the industry’s collective stance on protecting creative work.
Jana Nayagan, which was originally scheduled for release on January 9, 2026, had earlier faced delays due to certification-related issues. Following the leak, concerns have been raised regarding its box office prospects, with fans hoping the film will still receive strong support upon its official release.
