With the high number of refuting speculations on a sequel to Thevar Magan (1992), director Mahesh Narayanan has stepped up to clear the air by clarifying that the project has been just put ON HOLD as Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan is currently packed with several projects.

Speaking to India Today, Mahesh said, “No no, it is not shelved. It's Kamal Haasan sir's script. Right now, he is preoccupied with other films. So, we will get on it later. Although the project has been halted, it has not been completely shelved. I have been a part of Raaj Kamal Films International for a long time.”

Mahesh had worked as an editor for Kamal Haasan's films Vishwaroopam and its sequel. Since then, Kamal has shown interest in working with Mahesh after being enthralled by his latest Malayalam film, Malik.

Written by Kamal Haasan and directed by Malayalam filmmaker Bharathan, Thevar Magan won five National awards and was selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. The film has a cult following, thanks to its strong storyline, brilliant performances by veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal Haasan, Nassar, and Revathi, and music by Ilaiyaraaja.

On the work front, Kamal is on the verge of wrapping up Indian 2, which features Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simhaa, and Priya Bhavani Shankar in prominent roles. Bankrolled by Lyca Production, the multi-faceted star will be on a killing spree to end the hazard of systematic corruption.

Following this, Kamal will be reuniting with filmmaker Mani Ratnam after 35 years. Last month, a statement was released announcing the reunion of the duo, which had last worked in the Tamil gangster drama, Nayakan.
