Award-winning director SP Jananathan who directed critically-acclaimed movies such as Peranmai and Iyarkai was found unconscious at his residence on Thursday and was rushed to the Apollo Hospital.

The director who was declared brain dead at the hospital was put on life support.

On the day of the incident, the director was busy with the editing work of his upcoming movie 'Laabam' starting Vijay Sethupathi and Shruthi Haasan in the lead role.

However, it is reported that the director has now passed away at the hospital due to cardiac arrest. He was 61 years old at the time of his passing.
