Local movie Paramapatham (Snake and Ladder Gameboard) has been sent to compete in the Best Foreign Film Category in the 78th Golden Globe Awards next year.

The yet-to-be-released thriller will be among 139 foreign language film from 77 countries vying for the top prize in the contest, which will take place next February.

Paramapatham will be competing against the likes of Dhanush-starrer "Asuran" and Surya's "Soorarai Pottru" in the same category.

The film is directed by Viknesh Perrabu and Thanesh Perrabu, and produced by Sai Nanthini Movie Universe, Dr. Latcha Perrabu, and Dr. Chakravarthy.

Earlier this year, the movie joined the grand Asian Book of Records, which is a certified entity under the Guiness World Records.

Prior to this record, the film had also swept at least 16 awards, including the Best Cinematography Award, Best Feature, Best Director Award, and many more at various film festivals, which placed it in the Malaysia Book of Records for "Most Tamil Movie Awards won by a Movie Director".

Starring Ben G, Ago, Umaganthan, Vikki Nadarajah, and Kavi Maran, among others, Paramapatham depicts the story of an archaeologist, Aroon and three of his friends who go on a trip. There, Aroon finds an ancient board game, and what happens afterwards forms the crux of the story.

Music for the film is composed by Balanraj and M.Jagathees.

Paramapatham's release has been postponed multiple times, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and now its makers are considering the possibility of releasing the CGI and special effects-laden flick on the OTT (Over-The-Top) streaming media service next year, if cinemas do not reopen for business anytime soon.

Here's wishing all the very best to the Paramapatham team for sending their project to the Golden Globe Awards and may they get the recognition they deserve!
