Nimisha Sajayan Says Not Every Woman Has the Privilege to Speak Up Against Judgment

Nimisha Sajayan has opened up about being judged for her appearance, saying she has reached a point where such comments no longer affect her.

In an exclusive conversation with IANS, the actor admitted that she too has faced criticism over the way she looks but has gradually learned to deal with it.

“I too have been judged on the way I look many times. I think I am more of that person now, it doesn’t matter, it doesn’t affect me,” Nimisha said.

However, she acknowledged that not everyone has the privilege or freedom to respond when faced with disrespect or public judgment. Reflecting on her upcoming film Babita Reporting, Nimisha drew parallels between her own experiences and her character Babita, who undergoes a significant transformation throughout the story.

She explained that while filming the movie, she realised that many women are unable to stand up for themselves when they are judged or disrespected because of the circumstances they come from.

“There was a point where I thought I could react, but at the same time, I realised that there are a lot of women who can’t. They don’t come from a space where they can react. They don’t have that privilege,” she said.

Babita’s journey, according to Nimisha, is about learning to break free from the expectations placed on her.

At first, Babita constantly listens to those around her and adjusts herself according to what others want. But eventually, she begins to recognise what is happening and finds the strength to break out of that shell.

“When she comes out of that shell, I think it’s a game changer. There’s a shift in the way she approaches situations and deals with people,” Nimisha said.

The actor also reflected on how life experiences can change a person’s perspective.

“For me also as a person, you go through some situation, you face something and all of a sudden, your perspective changes. The way you look at things around you changes, it shifts and you start seeing things differently,” she said.

Nimisha believes that it is ultimately the situations people face and the experiences they go through that shape who they become.

“I think it’s the situations and the things that you deal with in your life that make you a different person,” she added.
