There is no denying the unmatched stardom of Rajinikanth, whose fan following stretches across generations and regions. However, the superstar recently opened up about a deeply humbling experience that, according to him, completely shattered his ego.
Speaking at a special event celebrating 45 years of the Art of Living Foundation and the 70th birthday of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Rajinikanth recalled a memorable visit to the Art of Living International Centre in Bengaluru.
The actor shared that Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar had once invited him to take a tour around the ashram premises. Concerned about creating disturbance due to his immense popularity, Rajinikanth initially hesitated.
“Gurudev asked me to go with him. I told him it would mean a lot of disturbance for him. But he said, ‘No problem, no disturbance, just come,’” Rajinikanth recalled.
The actor admitted that he naturally assumed people at the ashram would recognise him, approach him for photographs and gather around him, especially since many visitors were from Tamil Nadu.
However, what happened next left the superstar completely stunned.
“To be frank, not even a single person looked at me… Forget photos and autographs; not even a single person looked at or spoke to me. I was waving, but no one looked at me,” he said honestly.
Rajinikanth added that despite meeting several politicians and industrialists throughout his life, this particular moment had a profound impact on him emotionally.
“I have met many politicians and industrialists, but this incident crushed my ego,” he admitted.
The actor then shared a lighter moment from the incident, joking that while Sri Sri Ravi Shankar had promised there would be “no disturbance,” he ended up feeling disturbed internally instead.
“Idhar disturb ho gaya,” Rajinikanth joked, pointing towards his head, drawing laughter from the audience.
He concluded by saying that the experience made him realise the true “power of spirituality” and how spiritual spaces transcend fame, status and celebrity culture.
On the professional front, Rajinikanth was last seen in Coolie. The superstar will next appear in Jailer 2, the sequel to Nelson’s blockbuster action entertainer Jailer.
He is also expected to share screen space with Kamal Haasan in an upcoming project that has already created major excitement among cinema fans.
