Superstar Rajinikanth has been bestowed the Dadasaheb Phalke award, which is Indian cinema's highest film honour.

In April this year, India's information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar said that the 70-year-old actor is one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema and that his contribution as an actor, producer and screenwriter, has been iconic.

For his lifetime contribution to Indian cinema, Rajinikanth will receive a cash prize of 1 million rupees (RM56,500), on top of the esteemed award.

Months after the announcement, the actor today received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 67th National Film Awards ceremony in Delhi. He was accompanied by his daughter Aishwarya and son-in-law Dhanush. Watch the video here:
