After returning to Chennai following his medical checkup in the US, the actor had announced that he would be having a meeting with Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) functionaries to discuss his decision of returning to politics and about the future of the outfit. Here's what the actor said during the announcement:

However, the actor later dissolved the RMM, an outfit that was started in 2018 as a precursor to his political party, and announced that it will function as a fan charity forum and will be a part of the Rajinikanth Fan Club Association.
“I had the intention of starting a political party and entering politics. But the timing was such that it was not possible," says the actor who cited his health condition, busy shooting schedule and the pandemic as the reasons.
