As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak and eventual lockdown in India, theatres have been closed and film releases are all postponed until after the situation gets better.
Recently, it was reported that Jyothika's film 'Ponmagal Vanthal' bankrolled by Suriya's 2D Entertainment will be released for the first time on an OTT platform, Amazon Prime instead of the theatres. It's slated to be released in the first week of May.
Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association has strongly condemned the move and its General Secretary Panneerselvam released a video statement banning all future Suriya-related films from releasing in the theatres.
Boycotting all Suriya films will mean that his upcoming action-drama 'Soorarai Pootru' will be facing issues as well. According to Panneerselvam, the association made this decision when Suriya didn't respond to their demand of halting the release of 'Ponmagal Vanthal' on Prime.
