The rumor began when the Chennai Corporation, a municipal body that governs the city of Chennai, glued a poster at the actor's residence in Alwarpet, Chennai. The poster read, 'We are in home quarantine to safeguard ourselves and Chennai from Corona'. Take a look:

However, Kamal dismissed the rumor and confirmed that his Alwarpet residence has been converted to his party Makkal Needhi Maiam's office. Ulaganayangan currently lives in isolation at another residence as a precaution. When asked if he has been infected by Covid-19, Kamal denied.
Following his statement, the Chennai Corporation removed the poster. According to the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation G. Prakash, his workers put up the quarantine poster as a result of Kamal's ex-partner Gauthami's recent travel to Dubai.
Her passport displays his address as her residence. Perhaps, this might have been the reason for the confusion.
