Maruthur Gopala Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, is a legendary actor turned politician who served as the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for 10 years before passing away in 1987 due to heart failure.

The actor who started his movie career in 1935 became one of the most popular South Indian actors of all time.
It is now revealed that MGR received a remuneration of Rs5 lakhs for 'Olivilakku' and Rs8 lakhs for 'Nam Naadu'. These wages were considered to be huge in those days, and is said to be the highest payment the actor has received for his movies.

Nowadays top Kollywood heroes are paid between Rs50 to Rs100 crores, meanwhile leading actresses are paid up to Rs5 crores per movie.
