Actress Nayanthara needs no introduction to the film industry. The actress who debuted in Tamil cinema through Sarathkumar's 'Ayya' has now become one of the most sought after actress in South Indian cinema. She's even called the 'Lady Superstar of Kollywood' by her fans.

However, Nayanthara was not the star's real name. She was born Diana Mariam Kurian to Malayali Christian parents in Bangalore. While pursuing her Bachelor's degree in English, Diana sparked an interest in modeling. In 2003, Her first-ever director Sathyan Anthikad discovered her from a jewelry ad in a Malayalam magazine and cast her in his Malayalam film 'Manassinakkare'.

Just before the release of the film, Sathyan came across an adult film named 'Diana'. Afraid that his debutant actress and film will be associated with the name of the 'dirty' film, he decided to find a new name for the young actress.

After shortlisting three names, the film's clapboard boy choose 'Nayanthara' as the star's new screen name. Well, he wouldn't have thought that this name will set out to rule Kollywood one day.
