Actor Sivakarthikeyan has finally addressed the much-talked-about box office clash between his upcoming film Parasakthi and Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which are set to release during the Pongal festive season.
Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, is scheduled to hit theatres on January 10, 2026, while Jana Nayagan, widely promoted as Vijay’s final film, is slated for release a day earlier on January 9. Speaking at the Parasakthi audio launch event, Sivakarthikeyan shared his initial reaction upon learning about the clash.
The actor revealed that Parasakthi was originally planned for a Deepavali 2025 release. However, the makers decided to step back after Jana Nayagan locked the festive slot. With Pongal identified as the next suitable window, the team continued work accordingly, only to later learn that Jana Nayagan had also shifted its release to Pongal.
Sivakarthikeyan admitted that the news left him shocked and anxious. He said he immediately reached out to producer Akash to explore the possibility of postponing Parasakthi to avoid a clash with Vijay’s film. However, he was informed that investors had already been notified about the Pongal release, and postponing further would push the film into summer 2026, coinciding with the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Seeking clarity, Sivakarthikeyan then contacted Vijay’s manager, Jagadish, to express his concerns. He shared that while Jana Nayagan might not face box office pressure, Parasakthi could be affected due to the former’s stature as Vijay’s farewell film. Jagadish relayed the message to Vijay and called back shortly after with the superstar’s response.
According to Sivakarthikeyan, Vijay expressed confidence that the Pongal festive window was large enough to accommodate both films without affecting their performance. Vijay also conveyed his best wishes to the Parasakthi team.
Concluding his address, Sivakarthikeyan urged audiences to celebrate both films. He encouraged fans to watch Jana Nayagan on January 9 in honour of Vijay’s 33-year journey in cinema, followed by Parasakthi on January 10, inviting viewers to enjoy both releases as part of the festive celebrations.
