Superstar Rajinikanth and Isiagnani Ilaiyaraja are giants in the Kollywood industry in their own rights.

The legendary composer has composed countless evergreen songs for movies starring the equally legendary actor, back in the 1980s and 90s.

However, the duo last worked together in 1994's Veera. Now, a report emerged that the duo may join hands again in an upcoming project.

According to India Glitz, Rajinikanth was deeply impressed by a story narrated by popular Bollywood filmmaker R. Balki, for his next project after his recent movie "Annaathe".

Reliable sources told the portal that Balki is also eager to work with Ilaiyaraaja for the project. So if this comes into fruition, "Thalaivar 169" could very well mark Rajinikanth's reunion with the legendary composer after more than 27 years!

For the record, Balki, who is a Tamilian by birth, has delivered numerous Bollywood hits, including Cheeni Kum, Paa and Shamitabh, starring Amitabh Bachchan. Besides, he has also directed Akshay Kumar in Pad Man and Mission Mangal, as well as Kollywood's own Dhanush in Shamitabh.

Will Rajinikanth and Ilaiyaraaja work their magic again to excite their loyal fans?

Guess we have to wait and hope for the dream project to happen!
