Superstar Rajinikanth has returned home after having a carotid artery revascularisation surgery performed on him at a Chennai hospital.

On Sunday, the popular actor a photo of him praying at his home altar, along with the caption "Returned home", to update his fan of his health condition.
Last Thursday, the 70-year-old actor was admitted to the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai, after going there for a routine checkup.

A medical bulletin issued by the Kauvery Hospital said that Rajinikanth underwent a carotid endarterectomy, which is a surgical procedure to remove plaque from the inside of a patient's carotid artery in order to restore normal blood flow to the brain.

Earlier last week, he had received the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to cinema in New Delhi.

This is not the first health scare concerning the superstar. In December last year, Rajinikanth was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad after experiencing fluctuation in blood pressure and exhaustion.

The actor's upcoming film "Annaatthe' is slated for Deepavali release on November 4.
