Actor Suriya's recent outing Jai Bhim, celebrated by the film fraternity and viewers, has sparked a flurry of controversies. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the film is a legal drama revolving around the battle against caste-based oppression.

The actor essayed the role of a real-life lawyer Chandru, who devoted his life to fighting for the disadvantaged without charging any fees. Suriya and Jyothika jointly-produced the film under their production company 2D Entertainment.

After getting a legal notice for allegedly portraying a specific community in a bad light, Suriya has been the receiving end of continuous threats.

According to a report by India Today, his Chennai residence has now been granted police protection. Five police officers with guns are said to be stationed at his house.

Many celebrities and Suriya's fans who adored the film and the actor have come forward to support him. The hashtag #WeStandWithSuriya has been trending on Twitter since the break of the controversy.
