Tamannaah may have only four films under her belt so far and some of them may not have done well at the box office but what is consistent is her outstanding performance in all of them.
So far, she has been in "Kanne Kalaimaane" and "Devi 2" in Tamil; "F2: Fun And Frustration" in Telugu; and "Khamoshi" in Hindi.
She is now busy with other projects, playing the heroine in Rohin Venkatesan's horror comedy in Tamil and "That Is Mahalakshmi" in Telugu. She is also in a film with Vishal, which she is excited about because of its jammed pack action scenes, some of which she gets to do, "It is a very urban, action film. It is a genre that I've not touched at all. I did action scenes in "Baahubali", but after that I haven't done any stunts. Performing the stunts in this film gave me a good feeling," she said.
The upcoming film, "That Is Mahalakshmi" is the Telugu version of the acclaimed Bollywood film, "Queen", which interestingly is currently being made in the other three south Indian languages with different actresses.
This is bound to give rise to people comparing her performance with the other actresses but the actress is not one bit worried about that. In fact, she only has praises for Nayanthara who was in the Tamil version of "Khamoshi, which she did in Hindi.
"I got to work with Nayan in "Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy" as well. We do share scenes and it was very nice working with her. I particularly enjoyed the experience."
"I've always been a fan of her and love her work. I think she is one of the actresses who has really sustained herself over a period of so many years," she said.
She said that comparisons are bound to arise when being a part of such projects. "Honestly, I'm not worried of comparisons. I think we are all accomplished actresses and we have established ourselves, so that gives us the security to do such projects. We are all trying to create a good film for the market we are catering to and when the content is good, that makes it possible," she explained.
"I have mainly been a part of south Indian feature films (for 14 years) and have had the opportunity to be part of films that have been huge in terms of scale, like the "Baahubali" movies and now, "Sye Raa".... In the past 10 years, the way films are viewed has itself changed, so I can do a lot of things that could not be done a few years ago."
"I can attempt scripts that I couldn't have done when I started out. Now, a lot of my directors want me to physically transform for the character. For example, for "Devi" and "Devi 2", I had to play a Tamil housewife, and I was told to transform into that character physically as well."
"In "Sye Raa", the look of my character is so different from what I've played so far. So, I am excited about this phase of my career because the faith that my directors are showing in my abilities has given me the confidence that I can play any character. This is something I did not expect doing when I started out. Because I am able to physically transform myself, I am getting opportunities to play diverse characters. It doesn't have to be a certain type of character anymore," she said.
It's nice to see a confident actress who is also gracious to her colleagues.
