‘Terbang’ Celebrates the Malaysian Spirit Through Thrilling Action and Powerful Emotion

The adrenaline-fuelled action film TERBANG, infused with a strong sense of pride in Malaysian achievement, is set to race into cinemas nationwide on 17 September. Inspired by the remarkable journey of a Malaysian rally team led by rally legend Karamjit Singh, TERBANG tells an uplifting story of determination, resilience, and unity, proving that when Malaysians come together in pursuit of a common goal, nothing is impossible.

Since the release of its trailer and a series of exclusive preview screenings, TERBANG, produced by Astro Shaw, has received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences. Many have described the film as a thrilling, emotional, and awe-inspiring cinematic experience that highlights the growing capabilities of Malaysian filmmaking. More than just a motorsport film, TERBANG strikes a careful balance between heartfelt storytelling and high-octane action. 

Directed by Chiu Keng Guan and brought to life by the production team at WooHoo Pictures, every aspect of the film has been meticulously crafted, from props that authentically recreate the year 2022 to rally racing choreography, immersive sound design, and realistic visuals that place audiences right in the heart of the action.

The film also provided a unique learning experience for the director and production team, particularly from a technical perspective. Capturing the intensity of rally racing required a distinctive filmmaking approach, including innovative methods for filming high-speed sequences while ensuring audiences could fully experience the excitement and pressure of the sport.

Filming took place across multiple locations, including Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perlis, and New Zealand, enhancing the film visual scale while adding an international dimension to its distinctly Malaysian story. From a storytelling standpoint, the screenplay was led by Hazwani Mahayuddin alongside Astro Shaw’s writing team. The script underwent multiple stages of development to ensure the narrative remained grounded and engaging rather than becoming overly motivational.

The result is a story that audiences of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy as an entertaining, relatable, and meaningful journey. TERBANG’s spirit of unity in diversity is also reflected in its stellar ensemble cast, featuring Irfan Zaini, Zizan Razak, Jack Tan, Nam Ron, Shweta Sekhon, Michael Helfman, Diana Danielle, Luqman Hafidz, Qasrina Karim, Razib Salimin, Ruminah Sidek, Peggie Ng, Ng Meng Tuck, and Dato’ Ahmad Tamimi Siregar.

What we focused on was achieving the right balance between emotion, action, and storytelling, ensuring the film feels authentic without becoming overly message-driven, while remaining accessible to audiences across generations.

The collaboration reflects the film themes of determination and perseverance while celebrating Malaysian achievements on the global stage. Adding to the excitement is the film’s official theme song, performed by acclaimed singer Amir Masdi.

TERBANG is produced by Astro Shaw in collaboration with EJJ Films, Enotech Pictures, and Aventure Space, with WooHoo Pictures serving as the production house. The film is supported by strategic partner STING and innovation partner U Mobile, and features authorised brand elements from PROTON, PETRONAS, EON Berhad, and Malaysia

Teaming up with Kitt, a talented yet hot-headed young driver, Ajeet must confront his inner turmoil, fierce competition, and a lingering guilt that has never truly faded. With the support of Lisa, the leadership of Rahim, and the expertise of Imran and his team, they unite to compete on the world stage. 

Premiering in cinemas nationwide on 17 September 2026, TERBANG will also be available in 4DX format, offering audiences a fully immersive cinematic experience through motion seats and environmental effects such as wind, water, and scents.
