Popular Kollywood actor Vijay has filed a civil lawsuit against 11 people, including his father SA Chandrasekhar and mother Shoba.

The actor, known as Thalapathy among his large fan base, filed the lawsuit in a Chennai court to restrain the said parties from using his name for gathering the public or to hold any meetings.

The matter began last year when Chandrasekhar registered Vijay's fan club Vijay Makkal Iyakkam as a political party called All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam with the Election Commission of India.

Chandrasekhar had further announced the name of his relative Padmanabhan as the party president, Shoba as the treasurer, and himself as the general secretary.

Vijay, whose real name is Joseph Vijay, however, quickly distanced himself from any political affiliations, and clarified that he had nothing to do with the party established by his father. He further urged his fans to not join the party.

The case has been adjourned to September 27.
