Ponnambalam is one of the well-known character artists of Tamil cinema. He began his career as a stuntman and shot to fame after playing villainous roles in films like Nattamai and Muthu.

Last year, reports of Ponnambalam's deteriorating health and hospitalisation in Adyar, Chennai hit the headlines. The actor is said to have kidney-related issues.

Learning about Ponnambalam's misfortune actors like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth came forward to help him. It was reported that Ponnambalam was suffering from kidney disease.

In a recent video, Ponnambalam revealed that he has undergone a kidney transplant and wholeheartedly thanked Telugu Mega Star Chiranjeevi for giving him Rs 2 lakhs for the operation.

He further added that he will never forget Chiranjeevi's help and prayed that he will have a long life like Lord Hanuman.
