Venpa has become the highest grossing local Tamil film for last year and the fourth highest grossing local Tamil film of all time.

This was revealed in a Facebook post by Vadai Productions, which produced the K. Kavi Nanthan-directed romantic flick.

"A huge plot twist in our collection report. We found error in our theatrical collection total figure during the process of reconciliation for Insentif Tayangan Filem Cereka (ITFC).

"Due to a certain technical error, we missed out on MBO Cinemas' collection number as we did not receive their sales report. After adding up the numbers from their sales report, our total collection figure sums up to RM542,686.60," said the post.

This makes Venpa last year's highest grossing local Tamil film, and the fourth highest grossing local Tamil film of all time.

The production company, which started off making short films, further apologised for the "negligence" in making the announcement 10 months after the movie's release, as it is their first motion picture and they are just adapting to the theatrical system.

"We will release the official ITFC letter from FINAS (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia) once we obtain it as a proof of our theatrical collection.

"Thanks for the immense love and support for #Venpa. Hope we will get more support for our future theatrical releases."

Starring Yuvaraj Krishnasamy, Agalyah Maniam as Kalyani, and Kuben Mahadevan, among others, Venpa is about Thenavan (Yuvaraj) whose family is eager to get him married.

However, Thenavan keeps rejecting all his suitors as he can't get over his school-time crush Kalyani (Agalyah). Their lives change when another girl (played by Santeinii Chandrabos) and Kalyani's former lover Sathya (played by Thevaguru Suppiah) enter their lives.

Congrats to Vadai Productions and team for the impressive achievement! Best wishes for reaching greater heights in the future.
