Any cricket fans out there? Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan's life will be made into a biopic, with Vijay Sethupathi playing him.

Although unconfirmed at this moment, the film could be titled "800" after the record number of Test wickets bagged by Muttiah who was a spinner - the most in history by any bowler.

Confirming the project, Vijay said, "Muralitharan is an iconic sportsman of Tamil origin; he's someone who's made his mark across the world. I am sure portraying Murali is going to be a challenge for me. But I'm looking forward to it. I am delighted that Murali himself will be closely involved with the making of the film and will be guiding me on the cricketing aspects."

A spokesperson from the production team also confirmed it and added, "We are privileged to be bringing on screen the life and times of one of world's most accomplished sportsmen, to audiences across the world. As you already know, Sethupathi is already in. MS Sripathy will be directing it. The film will be made in Tamil and released in several languages."

Muttiah himself is happy with the choice of actor playing him saying, "I am honoured that an accomplished actor like Vijay Sethupathi will be playing me in the film. I have been actively collaborating with the creative team for the past several months and I will continue to support this project through its duration. We are looking at a late 2020 release."

Muttiah is currently a cricket coach and was rated as the greatest test match bowler ever by Wisden Cricketers' Almanack in 2002. He retired from Test cricket in 2010, earning his 800th wicket. In 2017, he became the only Sri Lankan to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame and won the Ada Derana Sri Lankan of the Year in 2017.

Vijay, on the other hand, has impressed everyone with his performance as transgender person Shilpa in "Super Deluxe" which was directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja. Not just fans, but many celebrities were also bowled over by his performance.

Vijay Deverakonda, who is currently busy promoting his upcoming film, "Dear Comrade", revealed that he was thoroughly impressed by Sethupathi's performance. When asked about the Tamil directors and actors he wants to work with, the actor said he wants to collaborate with Mani Ratnam for a film and added that he wants to act with Sethupathi.
