Bollywood icon Aamir Khan has revealed that his upcoming cameo in Coolie, the much-anticipated collaboration between superstar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj, was driven by admiration rather than the script itself.

During the promotions for his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir shared with Zoom that he instantly agreed to the role without even reading the lines.

"I really enjoyed doing it. I’m a big fan of Rajini sir… a huge fan. I have a lot of love and respect for him. So when Lokesh told me it’s a Rajini sir’s film and he wanted me to do a cameo, I said, ‘Done. I’m doing it. Whatever it is, I’m doing it,’" said Aamir.

This marks a special moment for Indian cinema enthusiasts, reuniting two of its biggest stars on screen. Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth last shared screen space nearly three decades ago in the 1995 film Aatank Hi Aatank, directed by Dilip Shankar.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for blockbusters like Kaithi and Vikram, Coolie is slated for release on August 14, 2025. The film features a stellar ensemble cast, including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj, with Pooja Hegde making a special appearance.

Interestingly, Lokesh has confirmed that Coolie will not be part of his popular Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), which includes Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.

The project is backed by Sun Pictures, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music, Girish Gangadharan handling cinematography, and acclaimed stunt duo Anbariv overseeing the action choreography.

The cameo in Coolie also signals the beginning of a larger creative partnership between Aamir Khan and Lokesh Kanagaraj. Aamir confirmed that the duo will collaborate on a high-budget superhero action film set to begin production in the second half of 2026.

“Lokesh and I are doing a film together. It’s a superhero film - a big-scale action outing. We have both signed it. I cannot reveal anything further,” Aamir shared.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is gearing up for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, scheduled to hit theatres on June 20, 2025. The actor is also working on two ambitious projects: his long-anticipated adaptation of the Mahabharata and a biopic on Indian cinema pioneer Dadasaheb Phalke, in collaboration with renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani.
