Director AR Murugadoss is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated film Madharasi, featuring Sivakarthikeyan, Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, and Biju Menon in pivotal roles. Touted as one of the biggest projects in Sivakarthikeyan’s career, the film wasn’t always envisioned with him in mind.

In a recent conversation with Galatta Plus, Murugadoss opened up about the film’s early stages and revealed that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was once considered for the lead role.

“Long back, around seven or eight years ago, I had the core idea for Madharasi,” the director shared. “I got a chance to narrate the basic character to Shah Rukh Khan sir, even though I didn’t have a complete script at that time. It was a very warm interaction, and he even agreed to do the film based on just that one note about the character.”

However, the collaboration didn’t materialize due to scheduling conflicts. “I messaged him after two weeks for a follow-up, but there was no response from his side, and by then, I had lost interest. I’m not the kind of person who would keep chasing after someone, so I just moved on with other projects,” Murugadoss explained.

Years later, when revisiting the story, Murugadoss felt Sivakarthikeyan would be the perfect fit for the role. “When I thought about it again, Sivakarthikeyan sir came to mind immediately. With his fitness, flexibility, and ability to bring depth to the character, he was the ideal choice. I then redeveloped the script and shaped the role keeping him in mind, and that’s how Madharasi came to life,” he said.

With an ensemble cast, a fresh storyline, and Murugadoss’s signature style of filmmaking, Madharasi has already generated significant buzz and is set to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year.
