Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) chairman Y V Subba Reddy has unveiled a plan to build a bigger and more spacious Venkateshwara temple (similar to the famed Tirupati temple) as a majority of devotees are from Tamil Nadu.

He told reporters that the committee will soon announce their final decision after discussing with Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Previously, the board has built a temple in Kanyakumari and soon will start the works if they decide on the Chennai temple construction.

"If the need arises, CM Jagan Mohan Reddy will initiate a dialogue with the Tamil Nadu government seeking land for the temple," Subba Reddy said.

Chennai's TTD Information Center Chief Krishna Rao expressed that securing land in Chennai can be rather difficult. According to him, former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa had promised to allot land for a big temple but that did materialise and the board is still waiting.

If the plan becomes a reality, Tamil Nadu devotees no longer need to travel far and queue for hours to get a glimpse of Lord Venkateshwara. Every year, at least 30 million devotees visit the famous Tirupati temple from all over the world.
