Travelling is no longer a leisure; it’s fast becoming a necessity to get a break from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. As Malaysians, we hold a powerful passport—ranked 12th in the world by Henley Passport Index 2019.

Why is Malaysian passport considered powerful and share the rank with the likes of Canada, Switzerland, and Ireland? The answer is fairly simple.

A Malaysian passport gets visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 179 countries. Shocking, isn’t it? Now you have a long list of countries you can choose from every time you plan your vacation. 

To make things easier, here’s the Editor’s Pick of the ‘Top Visa-Free Countries for Malaysians to Visit’:

Cambodia 

Travel without visa for up to 30 days

WHY: Ancient temples and history, white-sand beaches, Khmer art, Apsara dance, incredible street food, vibrant nightlife

WHEN: Peak tourist seasons fall in the dry season from November to May. Although the weather will be great, visiting Cambodia at these times means you need to face the tourist crowds at most attractions. Despite the rains and muddy landscapes, monsoon season (June – October) can be one of the quietest times and allows a peaceful and less hectic travel.

WHERE: Temples of Angkor, Tonle Sap Lake, Night markets, Silver Pakhoda, Sihanoukville and the Southern islands

Taiwan

WHY: Mountains and hiking trails, urbanscapes & nostalgic traditions 

WHEN: April and November are the best months to visit Taiwan! The weather is not too intense and rain showers are also less frequent.

WHERE: Hot springs, Taroko National Park, Sun Moon Lake, Kenting National park, Night Markets and Dajia’s Mazu Pilgrimage

South Korea

WHY: Centuries-old history and traditions, beautiful landscapes, hi-tech cities, urban subcultures and unique cuisine

WHEN: Spring season in April to June and Autumn in September to November are thought to be the best times to visit South Korea.

Mongolia

WHEN: Best time to visit Mongolia is in the summer which is June to August. While May, September or October are quiet and less touristy for those who prefer non-peak months.

UAE

Travel without visa for up to 30 days

WHY: Luxury, the city of gold, spectacular deserts and city filled with skyscrapers

WHEN: April, May, September and October are the best months to visit UAE. However, for an excellent weather, consider the winter season in December to March.

WHERE: Dubai city, Burj Al Arab, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace, Burj Khalifa, Liwa Oasis and Jebel Jais

Morocco

WHEN: The Spring, from April to May is the perfect overall season to visit this beautiful country.

WHERE: Chefchaouen, Fez, Cascades d’Ouzoud, Marrakesh Kasbah Telouet and Rabat

Mauritius

WHY: Stunning beaches, heaven-like islands, colonial and historical buildings and easy-going hippie culture

WHEN: Tourist season falls in October to April, while for adventure seekers, outdoor activities and surfing are best in the months June to August

Greece

WHEN: The peak season during mid-July to end of August can be hectic. Try visiting around June or September for both the weather and a laid-back travel.

UK

WHY: Majestic architecture, a potpourri of cultures, mystical landscapes, and amazing nightlife

WHEN: The best months to visit include April and early June or in September or October.
