Jammu and Kashmir, located in the Northern part of India, is known as one of the most scenic places on earth for its snowy mountains, serene lakes, and famous shrines.

Kashmir is a politically-strategic location for both India and Pakistan, where Pakistan, India, and China are ruling certain part of the state.

Despite the on-going power struggle between the nations, some parts of Jammu and Kashmir are still safe for the travellers.


Travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kashmir is pretty easy. All you have to do is catch a flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi and get a transit flight to Srinagar International Airport, which will cost about RM1,500 or more depending on the season and the airline promo.

However, that's not the only way to travel to Kashmir. There's a very complicated route to reach Kashmir via land which might burn a hole in your pockets and exhaust your leaves. But it will be totally worth it in the end!

Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) to Thailand (Bangkok)



KL Sentral is your starting point for this incredible journey. Take a train from KL Sentral to Padang Besar, Perlis which will cost about RM120. The journey will take about 5.5 hours.

Catch the next train to Bangkok which will cost about RM160. Take a sleeper coach as the journey from Padang Besar to Bangkok will take over 17 hours. So just sit back and enjoy the magnificant views along the way.

If you're a Malaysian, you don't need a visa to travel to Thailand.

Thailand (Bangkok) to Myanmar (Mae Sot)


A bus from Bangkok to Mae Sot (border) will cost about RM80 or more depending on the service provider, and the trip will take about 7.5 hours.

A Malaysian citizen need to have a visa to enter Myanmar. The visa will cost about RM210 and ensure you've applied for the Visa before your travel.

Myanmar (Mae Sot) to India (Moreh)


Once you have crossed the border at Mae Sot, catch a ride to Myawaddy which is located 8.5km away and hop on a bus to Yangon.

The bus ride to Yangon will take about 9 hours and the bus fare might cost less than RM100.

Once you are done sightseeing at Yangon, catch a bus to Tamu (border) which will take you on a 22-hour journey. The bus fare might vary between RM80 to RM150. Try to get a sleeper bus if possible for a comfy travel.

Once you're at Tamu, catch a private vehicle to Moreh (border) to cross the border to India.

All the way to Jammu and Kashmir, India



The India Visa for Malaysians is priced at RM362 via online application and needs to be attained in advance. So ensure you have your India visa done before you begin your journey.

From Moreh, catch another van or private taxi to Guwahati, Assam which will cost approximately RM700 for a 9-hour journey. There are no direct train or busses for this route, thus a private car or taxi should be hired.

Once you have reached Assam, you can get a direct train to New Delhi which will take you on an exhausting 30-hour train ride. The ticket will cost less then RM200.


But you can also plan your trip to visit the places that are located in between your destination, such as Varanasi and Agra, instead of taking a direct train to New Delhi.

Once you've reached New Delhi and done sightseeing, take a 10-hour train from there to Jammu Tawi for the cost of RM85. Finally, catch a 4-hour bus from Jammu Tawi to Srinagar which will cost about RM40.

And that's how you travel from Kuala Lumpur to Kashmir via land.

Once you have reached Moreh (India), you can also alternatively travel to Bhutan and Nepal before heading to your destination.

Please note that you need to book a trip with a travel agency in Bhutan before entering the country.

A tourist tax of RM835 ($200) will be charged for per person per day and you will also need to apply a Visa to enter the country which will cost about RM170 ($40). This will be handled by your tour agency before your arrival at the country.


As for Nepal, you can get a visa on arrival which will cost RM100 for a 15-day multiple entry visa. Once you are done, you can head to cities such as Patna or Varanasi to catch a train to New Delhi.
