Rangoli is an art form originating in the Indian subcontinent, in which patterns are created on the floor or other flat surfaces using powdered lime stone, red ochre, dry rice flour, or coloured sand and rocks, among others.

While serving as decoration, the powered calcite, limestone or grain powders also deters insects from entering the house.

A rangoli artist does not only have to have an artistic flair, but also lots of patient to produce these works of art.

Bala Murughan Parani Kumar from Kuala Lumpur has recently created a record in producing works of Rangoli.

On Jan 21, he secured a place in the Malaysia Book of Records under the "most number of Rangoli kolam art in a day by an individual" by producing a whopping 36 colourful Rangoli kolams!



The Rangoli artist cum artist is also the co-founder of the Rang Ki Craftaholic Hub, an online arts and crafts shop.
