Guess what is making a comeback once again?
Astro is once again collaborating with the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), to launch 'INNOVATHON' Season 2, a reality TV program based on science, technology and innovation as a platform to raise skills and innovative ideas among Malaysians to find solutions and improvements to current socioeconomic issues.
Even more special, this season's 'INNOVATHON' also involves collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education as an effort to popularise science and technology among students at school and university levels. This program also attracted the attention of Asia School of Business (ASB) to become a strategic partner for this season.
A total of 56 participants were selected through an audition session and will compete on the 'INNOVATHON' stage by presenting interesting ideas based on science and innovation through an 8-episode broadcast. Each episode will see all the contestants give their best presentation to win the hearts of the jury panel and Malaysians. The best ideas from each episode will be selected to advance to the final stage, and they will compete to win the Business Development Support Fund with a value of up to RM1 million.
Astro is excited to play its role in providing a platform for all these talented innovators. As a large platform, 'INNOVATHON' provides an opportunity for every level of society in this country to present their creative innovations, and at the same time help support the Government's initiative in further commercializing the field of Science and Technology.

Having been crowned as the Gold award winner at the ContentAsia Awards 2024 in the category of Original Reality Programme and/or Competition Programme, 'INNOVATHON' season 1 has proven that it’s winning programme formula. This achievement reflects Astro's dedication to producing scientific and diverse programs that not only resonates with the audience in Malaysia, but also throughout Asia.
'INNOVATHON' season 2 features of two Malaysian Ministers, the Minister of Economy, YB Mohd Rafizi Ramli and the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Chang Lih Kang as judges as well as the pairing of celebrity judges, Erra Fazira and Zahirah MacWilson. Datuk Aznil Hj. Nawawi will be back as the 'INNOVATHON' Performance Mentor guide and motivate all the participants of this programme, while Awal Ashaari will team up with Amelia Henderson as the programme host.

With that let's look at the 'INNOVATHON' SEASON 2 Judging & Trivia:
- In short, each episode features several ideas but only one or two of the best ideas will be selected to advance to the Final Stage. At this stage, they will compete to win business development support funds with a cumulative value of up to RM1,000,000. Eight contestants for each episode will introduce and present their ideas in front of 100 users and 5 professional judges.
- The participants will go through 3 stages: - Background Introduction, Guidance, the 100 Pitches
- Background Introduction is one of the processes that the participants go through during the audition session as well as the session with the mentor. This session is done as soon as the participants are shortlisted for the next round. At this stage, the ideas presented will be evaluated from the point of view of the ability to be developed as well as sustainability in implementation.
- Through the Mentoring segment, participants will receive advice and mentorship from personalities who have been successful in their respective industries. These include entrepreneurs, investors, business icons, celebrities and well-known national personalities.
- Each participant selected to advance to the next 'INNOVATHON' stage will receive a basic guidance session with an experienced mentor face-to-face to help their journey during the pitching session.
- The 100 Pitch sees the participants present their ideas to 100 potential users selected from various demographic backgrounds which comprise 40% of the overall evaluation.
- In addition to the 100 individuals, five judges will be selected each week from a pool of experts. They will evaluate and give a percentage of 60% marks through their professional assessment.
- At the Final Stage, participants will present their final ideas to a panel of five key judges from various focus areas including entrepreneurs, business icons and even potential investors. The judges will evaluate the progress of the idea based on several factors such as opportunity, technicality and other criteria and provide feedback before selecting the winner.
- The First Place Winner will take home RM100,000 in cash, second and third place will receive RM80,000 and RM50,000 respectively. Fourth and fifth place will receive RM10,000 and RM5,000. These five winners will also receive business development support funds according to the suitability and scale of their business with a cumulative value of up to RM1,000,000.00.
'INNOVATHON' Season 2 will be starting on 30 November 2024, Saturday, at 9 PM, on Astro Ria (channel 104) and RTM (channel TV1) starting 1 December 2024, Sunday. ‘INNOVATHON’ Season 2 also will be broadcast on Astro Vaanavil (channel 201), Astro AEC (channel 306) and Astro Showcase (channel 413).
