Astro Malaysia, the nation’s leading content and entertainment company, has officially joined the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the world’s largest anti-piracy coalition. This strategic move underscores Astro’s ongoing commitment to combatting digital piracy, especially in the fast-growing sports and live entertainment sector.
With a reach of over 64% of Malaysian households and an extensive content ecosystem that includes Astro Originals, live international sports, and over 147 channels, Astro has long been a key player in delivering premium content to Malaysian fans.
Astro’s sports portfolio features major global sporting events, and its fight against piracy helps ensure fans enjoy secure, high-quality viewing experiences. Over the past year, Astro has made significant progress in anti-piracy efforts by:
- Taking down over 26,000 illegal listings of streaming devices and services,
- Shutting down 327 Telegram piracy groups with over 12 million subscribers,
- Achieving major legal victories that set new precedents in the Malaysian market.
Astro is also a core member of the Malaysian Cybercrime Task Force, working closely with government bodies to address digital piracy threats.
“Joining ACE gives us a global platform to strengthen these efforts,” said Euan Smith, Group CEO of Astro. “We’re not just protecting content, we’re protecting the livelihoods of athletes, producers, and creators. Sports fans deserve content that’s legal, high-quality, and safe.”
ACE, which includes global leaders such as Amazon, Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney, Sony, and Warner Bros. Discovery, welcomed Astro as the third Asia-Pacific member to join in recent months, highlighting the region’s growing importance in the global fight against piracy.
This collaboration ensures that sports content, from live matches to highlight shows, continues to reach fans in the most secure and rewarding way possible.
