Astro in partnership with PINTAR Foundation, successfully launched Ini Sungai Kita, a river conservation initiative held on 13 August 2025 at Sungai Ingoi, Hulu Langat. The programme brought together 199 participants, including students and teachers from SK Kuala Pomson, volunteers from the local community and Astro, demonstrating the shared commitment to environmental stewardships.
As part of Astro’s Rimba Kita programme, Ini Sungai Kita recognises our Malaysian rivers as a crucial resource for forest ecosystems and human communities. This programme aims to raise awareness about the importance of river conservation amongst the local youth, not only promoting sustainable water management practices but also instilling a sense of ownership and responsibility, facilitating long-term behavioral change within the community.
The river conservation effort featured a hands-on river cleaning activity at Sungai Ingoi, complemented by a special tree planting session aimed at enriching the area’s ecological biodiversity. The initiative was honored by the presence of Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki bin Tun Azmi, Chairman of Yayasan Astro Kasih and PINTAR Foundation, alongside Euan Smith, Astro’s Group Chief Executive Officer. Both leaders actively participated, embodying the spirit of collaborative environmental stewardship.
Guided by PINTAR Foundation and teachers from SK Kuala Pomson, Astro volunteers collaborated to clear overgrowth, debris, and sand from the riverbed, while also beautifying the surrounding area. Workshops and educational sessions were conducted with primary students at SK Kuala Pomson to highlight the importance of water resources. These sessions offered students a deeper understanding of how rivers sustain biodiversity and contribute to the well-being of the local community.
Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki bin Tun Azmi, the Chairman of Yayasan Astro Kasih and PINTAR Foundation said, “Building a sustainable ecosystem requires all of us to work together. Through Ini Sungai Kita, we are proud to unite schools, communities, and corporates in a shared commitment to protect our natural resources and educate the next generation.” Euan Smith, Group CEO of Astro, emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement, stating, “Real meaningful change starts at the grassroots. By working closely with local schools and communities through Ini Sungai Kita, we’re not just cleaning rivers, we are building long term awareness that will shape a more sustainable future for all.”
His remarks reflect Astro’s commitment to fostering environmental consciousness and empowering communities to take ownership of their natural resources. Looking ahead, Astro recognises its responsibility as Malaysia’s leading content and entertainment company to set the example in driving long-term positive impacts. By leveraging our platforms as a “Voice for Good”, Astro is committed to inspiring communities and raising environmental awareness at both local and national levels.
