ASTRO achieved a significant milestone with its inaugural 24-hour LIVE telecast of Thaipusam, earning recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records. The event was honoured with awards for the ‘Longest Thaipusam Festival Celebration Live Broadcast’ and the ‘Longest Thaipusam Celebration Live Broadcast Hosting by An Individual’.
Aired on Astro Vaanavil (Ch201) through TV, Astro Go, and On Demand from January 24 at 9 PM to January 25 at 9 PM, the telecast featured 19 hosts providing live updates from renowned local temples in Batu Caves, Georgetown, Ipoh, and Sungai Petani.
Themed #NandriKantha, the 24-hour live coverage marked a record-breaking success, achieving the highest viewership to date, with a remarkable 192% increase compared to the previous year.
ASTRO together with the Astro team received the prestigious Longest Thaipusam Festival Celebration Live Broadcast award from Lee Pooi Leng, an officer of the Malaysia Book of Records. The Longest Thaipusam Celebration Live Broadcast Hosting by An Individual award was received by Meena Kumari, one of the hosts of the 24-hour LIVE telecast of Thaipusam. – Prem Anand, Vice President, Indian Customer Business.
The prestigious awards were presented by Lee Pooi Leng, an officer of the Malaysia Book of Records. ASTRO and the dedicated team, including Meena Kumari, one of the hosts, were honoured for their outstanding contribution to the celebration of Thaipusam.
