“Let us be poor in wealth, but not poor in knowledge.”

Those simple yet powerful words from a mother to her son became the guiding light that carried him through hardship, sacrifice, and determination, all the way to success.

Sharvin's story is a powerful reminder that love knows no bounds. Thanks to the relentless dedication of his single mother, he defied the odds and carved out his own path. Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar beautifully highlights this journey.

Growing up with just his mother, Sharvin learned the true meaning of resilience. Everyday, she rode her motorbike from Dengkil to Shah Alam, working tirelessly to provide for them. Her dedication inspires us all to chase our dreams, no matter the obstacles. When money ran short, she would take on a second job as a hotel receptionist from 6 PM to 1 AM.

“There were days she had no money left, but she never gave up,” shared Nurul Izzah. “She worked 15 hours a day, sacrificing rest and comfort just to ensure there was food on the table. Even when she fell ill, she never went to the doctor, choosing instead to save every ringgit for her beloved son.”

Working part-time at a supermarket, he earned RM7 an hour, pouring every cent into supporting his family. His mother’s powerful words, “Be poor in wealth, not poor in knowledge,” continue to inspire him.

Sharvin's journey from earning a JPA scholarship to joining the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia (ASEM) is proof that ambition knows no bounds. With hands-on experience and leadership training from international companies, he’s setting himself up for success in today’s job market.

Under the guidance of Nurul Izzah, who also serves as an advisor and mentor at Sidec, Sharvin and other graduates were equipped with both technical expertise and confidence to pursue fulfilling careers, with starting salaries between RM5,000 and RM6,000 a month.

Now, Sharvin finally fulfilled a promise that carried him through every late night of studying and every moment of struggle.

“Amma,” he told his mother, “I made it. Now it’s my turn to take care of you. I’m sorry for all the hardship I caused, and thank you… for everything. I love you.”

The true treasure in life isn’t gold, but the joy of seeing our loved ones thrive. For this mother, her son’s happiness is the ultimate reward. Life can feel tough sometimes, but remember that hard work and passion can turn things around!
