During a promotional press meet in Madurai, a reporter remarked that Vikram’s fanbase doesn't seem to match that of his contemporaries, Suriya or Ajith Kumar. Unperturbed, Vikram replied, “You don’t know anything about my fans. Just come to the theatre and see for yourself,” which elicited laughter from the crowd.

The reporter went on to suggest that Vikram is not considered one of Kollywood’s “top three heroes.” After the video of the interaction surfaced on social media platform X, fans rushed to Vikram’s defense, criticizing the reporter’s questions. One fan described the question as “extremely distasteful and disrespectful” to a legend like Vikram. Another pointed out, “There was a time when only Vikram’s movies were hits, while Vijay and Ajith struggled.”

When the reporter persisted in questioning Vikram’s standing among Kollywood’s leading heroes, Vikram responded thoughtfully, indicating that rankings and titles are not his priority. He stated, "Being on the top hero list isn’t important. What matters is the audience. I know how to make films like Dhool and Saamy. I have given my best for Thangalaan. As far as I’m concerned, everyone is my fan in some way."

The conversation took an interesting turn when another reporter defended Vikram, noting that while other heroes might have detractors, Vikram does not. This observation underscores Vikram’s unique position in the industry - an actor who has consistently delivered diverse roles and maintained a strong connection with his fans without attracting much negativity. It’s this rapport with his audience that Vikram values the most.
